Home Learning
Reception –
From Autumn 2, reading books will be issued and sent home on a Friday. Please return all books on a Wednesday. It is important that you sign your child’s reading record so that their book can be changed on the allocated day.
Key Stage 1 –
HOME READING BOOKS
Your child will receive one hard copy of our home reading books on a weekly basis. These need to be handed in on a Wednesday and will be changed for Friday, if the reading partnership book has been signed. The book, once read, needs to be handed in by your child; although we will, of course, remind them to start with. Eventually, we are expecting them to do this independently. We also send home an eBook each week, the login details will be stuck inside their reading records. The eBook is the book they will have read with staff in school and so should be able to read fluently and with confidence.
SPELLINGS
Spellings will be sent home on a weekly basis and will be a selection of common exception words from the list for their year group. Spellings will be sent home on a Friday to learn and will be tested the following Friday.
HOME LEARNING
In Year 1, home learning will be sent home once every half term. It will link to the topics we are covering in class and will be given in addition to weekly spellings and reading. In Year 2, home learning will be set weekly on a rotational basis. Your child will receive either an English (grammar) or Mathematics task via ClassDojo, along with their weekly spellings and reading. All home learning should be uploaded to ClassDojo once completed.
Lower Key Stage 2 –
HOME READING BOOKS
Your child will receive a hard copy of our home reading books on a weekly basis. These need to be handed in by your child on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and will be changed for Friday, if the reading partnership book has been signed.
SPELLINGS
Spellings will be sent home on a weekly basis and will either link with the topic or theme your child is learning about or come from or be related to the common exception word list for Years 3 and 4. Spellings for both year groups will be set on a Friday and will be tested the following Friday. The spellings for every half term will be uploaded on Class Dojo. They can also be accessed through your child’s online Spelling Shed account (see separate letter for your child’s log in details.) The Y3/4 common exception word list can be accessed on our school website under the ‘Pupils’ tab, in the resources section.
HOMEWORK
In both year groups, every week and on a rotational basis, your child will be given one piece of either English or Mathematics homework. This will be uploaded to Class Dojo every week. Homework will be set on a Wednesday and will need to be completed and uploaded onto Class Dojo for the following Monday. Homework is in addition to times tables practice, spellings and home reading.
Upper Key Stage 2 –
HOME READING BOOKS
Your child will be issued with a school home reading book. The children are encouraged to read daily both in school and at home. As soon as your child has completed their reading book and an adult has signed their partnership book, a new book can be given.
SPELLINGS
The common exception word list for Years 5 and 6 will form the basis of most of our spelling activities and children are encouraged to learn all of the words on this list. Each week your child will be tested on 10 of these words – a document outlining which 10 words will be tested each week will be sent to you via Dojo. The full word list can be accessed on our school website under the ‘Pupils’ tab, in the resources section. Spelling tasks will also be set on a weekly basis and can be found on your child’s Spelling Shed account.
