Pupils with identified SEN either with or without a statement are admitted into the school and every effort is made to provide for those children.

The School’s Special Needs Policy meets the requirements of the Code of Practice for SEN.

The school has two hygiene suites one in each building with both shower and toilet facilities.  The governing body, together with the headteacher, discuss and establish appropriate staffing and funding for special needs.  Education Leeds allocates money through ‘Funding For Inclusion.’

Class teachers initially identify children with SEN, through assessments, and differentiation of learning activities will be employed or support given.  In some cases the action will mean the child’s needs are resolved.

Those children whose progress continues to cause concern will be placed on the SEN register and their progress monitored through School Action. If we feel that your child’s needs should be closely monitored in this way we will contact you and discuss the situation with you.

Some children may be referred to outside agencies and will move up to School Action Plus.  Children on School Action Plus will be assessed, monitored and reviewed by the class teacher, SENCO and external agencies.  We will keep you informed as to how your child is progressing at all times and suggest ways in which you can help to support your child’s learning at home

The Educational Psychologist and School Support Service liaise with the school to offer guidance and support and to advise when a statement of special needs should be made.  Annual reviews are held for children who
have statements of special needs.

There is a school governor with responsibility for special needs issues.
